Lecture, “Classical Art Forms and Contemporary Painting – Fahrelnissa Zeid and the Influence of Islamic Art” by Stefan Weber
Many aspects of Fahrelnissa Zeid’s works from the 1940s and 50s are closely connected with Islamic art. Zeid’s emphasis on geometry and repetition can be linked to Islamic decorative motifs, and her approach to abstraction can be seen as being clearly related to her knowledge of mosaic art. In his lecture Stefan Weber, Director of the Museum of Islamic Art at the Pergamon in Berlin, sheds light on these close connections and discusses their origins in various media—architecture, ornamentation, and ceramics.
